IDK how i feel about this
I’m confused by this.
And before some SJ blogger comes for my head, hear me out.
This looks like a line by line, scene by scene recreation of Steel Magnolias, which came out in 1989. That was 23 years ago. I remember watching Steel Magnolias when I was younger. I happened to like that movie, with standout performances by Sally Field (of course), Julia Roberts, and Olympia Dukakis. I’ve probably seen it maybe 4 times throughout my life, which is funny, because I can tell you when the movie is on, whether through the music or the lines.
Anyway.
Why remake it and add “soul” to it? I mean, literally, they are doing the movie LINE BY LINE. They haven’t changed the script; they just threw some “ethnic” dialogue in there, updated the social and pop references, and had Dana do her ugly cry that she’s been doing in almost every movie since Set It Off. Why watch this one when you can watch the original? Nobody ugly cries better than Sally Field, I promise!
I don’t know. I’m reserving judgement on it until I get around to seeing it. Yes, a man is actually going to watch a Lifetime Movie. Write down this historic day in your calendar. /sarcasm
I’m a writer. I’m a movie head. I’m going to watch this with an critical eye, and just from what I’ve seen in the previews… you’re better off watching the original.
